This sign-up event marks the beginning of the exam prep program's 12th year. And if the past 11 years are any indication then this will be
another very successful year within this program. More than half of all the students who have enrolled in this program in its sixth grade classes have gained
admission into Boston Latin School or Boston Latin Academy, and in recent years that success rate has approached 70 percent. Moreover, the fifth and eighth graders
who have taken these courses have also done quite well, often getting accepted into private schools like Thayer Academy and Catholic high schools like B.C. High.
The program offers a math course for fifth-grade students, while both a math and a verbal/reading comprehension course are offered for students in grades six and eight.
(Note that the fifth-grade math classes will meet twice a week for four weeks, but each class in the higher grades will meet once a week for eight weeks. Each class
will run for 90 minutes.) The tuition for one course is $80; the tuition for two courses (math and verbal) is $140. Each additional child in the same family is
charged half the standard tuition. For the first time, financial aid will be available for this program. For more information on the program please see
our "Programming" page. Finally, keep in mind that this sign-up is handled on a first-come, first-served basis,
so parents are encouraged to show up early!

Mandatory Parent Meeting for the Exam Prep Program
WHEN: Thursday, August 21st, from 6:00-7:30
WHERE: The Murphy Community Center
This meeting is not held for the benefit of the Project D.E.E.P. staff; it is held for benefit of the parents. One of the best things that the
Examination Preparation Program does is educate the program's parents on just how the placement exams are administered and scored. Of course, this meeting
also allows the parents to learn about how Project D.E.E.P.'s exam prep courses will be run, and that is very important, but parents will also learn at this meeting
when they need to register for certain tests, how the tests differ from each other, why a sixth grader's marks from grade five are important, which tests their
children should take, and many other things. Quite simply, if there is a child taking a placement test in the fall then this is a meeting that his/her parents cannot
afford to miss.

Registration for the One-on-One Tutorial Program
WHEN: Saturday, September 6th, from 9:00-11:00
WHERE: The Murphy Community Center
Parents normally start showing up for this sign-up by 2:00 in the morning. Spots in this program have become highly sought after, and they are given out
on a first-come, first-served basis, which is why people need to be there early for this sign-up. The program itself runs from mid-October to mid-May at virtually no cost
to the children or their parents (there is a $50 reimbursable fee). As the program's name implies, the students are paired up one-on-one with tutors who work with them throughout the year, meeting them once
a week for 90 minutes to cover all pertinent schoolwork. The students improve their grades and study skills along the way, all while buying into one of Project
D.E.E.P.'s key notions: that it is cool to be smart. Please see our "Programming" page for more information.

Mandatory Parent Meeting for the Tutorial Program
WHEN: Saturday, September 13th, from 11:00-12:00
WHERE: The Murphy Community Center (in cafeteria)
It is crucially important that all parents involved in this program know exactly what they have signed up their children to take part in.
Therefore, every parent of a child in this program should attend this informative meeting, especially any parents who are new to Project D.E.E.P. Prior to
the meeting, all parents and students should read through the Parent's and Student's Bibles that were handed out on the day of the registration.
